Mike Sundell has been in the wood coatings business since 1961. He worked 11 years developing coatings in the lab at Pierce and Stevens Chemical of Buffalo, NY.

With a partner, he formed S&M Sanding, a floor installation and finishing company in Des Moines, Iowa.

Mr. Sundell then moved to The Atlas companies of Des Moines, IA. He worked in several of their divisions, First in Perry-Austen Bowling Products in field tech work and troubleshooting.

Mike also worked in the Matrix Coatings division an industrial coatings supplier. He worked with various types of coatings from interior wood automotive coatings to musical instrument coatings and water base production line coatings for wood flooring..

Mr. Sundell was in on the beginning of Basic Coatings and worked in the field doing training, sales and troubleshooting. He moved on to sales management and finally to president of the company. When Basic was sold to Betco of Toledo, he stayed on for two years of transition.

Mike moved to South Carolina and became partner in RM Design a floor scraping and antiquing company. He recently sold his interest and is now working with R & D Coatings of McKees Rocks, PA.

Inspector Training Instructor for NOFMA in their CWFI course.

Mike is writing the finish inspection manual formerly used by NOFMA,  and currently used by NWFA and IAWFP in their inspector training.
